The main Christmas tree of Cherkasy will be decorated with amulets in the shape of eyes, which, according to legends, protects from the evil eye – “the eye of Fatima”.
“In Cherkasy, the main Christmas tree of the city is being completed on Soborna Square. It will be artificial, like last year, and will be 18 meters high. A twelve-pointed bright star will crown the New Year’s beauty,” the City Council said.
The administration of city council didn’t comment on the reason of emergence of a talisman in the form of eyes which still name “Nazar” – on the main Christmas tree of the regional center in any way.
The city center will be decorated with a number of other decorations and Christmas installations. Among them are three-dimensional inscriptions “2021” and “Cherkasy” with a height of 2.4 m, as well as light structures “Arch Tunnel”, 4-meter “Bullet with aisle”, “Panel” in the form of the emblem of the city of Cherkasy. Cherkasy streets are also decorated with festive illumination.
UAH 2.8 million will be allocated for the installation, connection and dismantling of Christmas garlands, decorations and other Christmas installations, including an artificial Christmas tree for the New Year and Christmas holidays.
“We plan that the Christmas tree will shine with New Year’s lights on St. Nicholas Day, December 19. It has already become a tradition for Cherkasy. However, this year’s coronavirus epidemic has made its adjustments: there will be no traditional Christmas tree opening and celebrations. However, we want to create a New Year’s mood for people.” the mayor Anatoly Bondarenko declared.
