Ukraine Gate- Kyiv – May 22, 2022 – Apple has informed some of its suppliers that it wants to ramp up production outside of China, as India and Vietnam, which are production sites for some Apple devices, are among the countries shortlisted by the iPhone maker as alternatives.
Last month, Apple expected bigger supply problems, as the Corona shutdowns slowed production and demand in China, and the company expected to lose up to $8 billion in revenue this quarter.
The company also resorted to diversifying its production away from China, due to the latter’s strict policies to combat the Corona virus and frequent power outages last year.
According to analysts, more than 90% of Apple products such as iPhones, iPads and MacBooks are manufactured in China by third parties.
Analysts said Apple’s heavy reliance on the state is a potential danger because of the communist government in Beijing and its clashes with the United States.
India produced 3.1% of the world’s iPhones last year, and the proportion is expected to rise to between 6% and 7% this year, while China accounts for almost the rest.
