The Minister of Education of Germany called for the recognition of professional qualifications of Ukrainians without bureaucracy in order to accelerate their integration into the labor market. Work is also underway to provide graduates with the opportunity to obtain a certificate.

German Education Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger called on the federal states to recognize the professional qualifications of Ukrainians quickly and without bureaucracy in order to accelerate their integration.

“The state must actively support the desire of Ukrainian refugees to work,” she said in an interview with the German newspaper Augsburger Allgemeine, published on Saturday, May 21.
According to Stark-Watzinger, the recognition of professional qualifications requires great standardization and unification in the lands. In addition, the option of obtaining post-qualification after employment is being considered.
The Minister noted that language skills are important for work. The German authorities support free online courses in adult education centers.
Stark-Watzinger said that Germany is strengthening cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine to enable Ukrainian children to obtain a certificate of completion of school, which is recognized in Ukraine.
According to her, the federal government and the country are currently holding an intensive exchange of views with the Minister of Education of Ukraine Serhiy Shkarlet in order to “find a good balance between integration into the German education system and preservation of Ukrainian identity.”
In April, conditions for admission to German universities were simplified for Ukrainian graduates who came to Germany because of the war. The innovations also apply to those who started studying at a Ukrainian university but did not complete their first year due to the war.
Those who were one step closer to obtaining a certificate in Ukraine, but did not have time to obtain it due to the war, can enter the College of Higher Education without a certificate.
