“The Premier League council today approved the proposed takeover of Chelsea by the Todd Boli / Clearlake consortium.
Details
The consortium passed the test for the owners and directors of the Premier League. The statement added that members of the new owner group, led by Boli, include Clearlake Capital Group, LP, Mark Voltaire and Hansjörg Wiss. From now on, Chelsea will work with the relevant authorities to obtain the necessary licenses to complete the takeover.
In turn, the authorities want to make sure that none of the proceeds will go to Abramovich, who came under sanctions after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and get guarantees for the club’s loan of 1.6 billion pounds.
It is assumed that Abramovich will agree to legally binding guarantees that will put the money in a frozen account under government control, writes The Guardian. Chelsea’s special operating license expires on May 31, and the sale is likely to be formalized this week.
