Ukraine Gate- Kyiv – May 29, 2022 – Chief of Staff of President Andrej Yermak said that the European Commission has sent to EU governments a revised proposal for the sixth package of sanctions against Russia, which proposes in particular a ban on the transport of oil from Russia by sea.
It is also proposed to exclude the Druzhba oil pipeline from the Russian oil embargo project due to Hungary’s position.
According to Bloomberg, EU members will gradually stop importing oil by sea, which could take six months, and oil products 8 months, during which Bulgaria could get a transition period until June or December 2024.
The European Commission has also proposed limiting the re-export of Russian oil, which is supplied via pipelines to other member states or third countries.
Since the beginning of the massive Russian invasion, the European Union has shown its solidarity with Ukraine and has begun to provide it with effective political, economic, financial, humanitarian and military aid, and has imposed five packages of very painful sectoral and individual sanctions for the Russian economy.
The EU countries are also currently working on the sixth package of sanctions against Russia, which will include the gradual imposition of a ban on the supply of Russian oil to the EU. At a meeting of the EU Council of Foreign Ministers on May 16, Hungary spoke out against the embargo on Russian oil.
