Without specifying a date, Erdogan said Turkey would launch a military operation against the Syrian Kurdish People’s Defense Forces, or YPG, which it considers a terrorist group linked to a banned Kurdish group that has led the 1984 uprising against Turkey.
Turkey is known to want to create a 30-kilometer “security zone” along the Syrian border to protect itself from attacks by Kurdish militants. Since 2016, the Turkish army has carried out three large-scale invasions in northern Syria, taking control of large areas on the Syrian border.
