It took the legislator almost a year to think about how to implement the decisions of the Constitutional Court and merge the two Supreme Courts. But so far they have just set up a working group to think about it.
It will be recalled that the decision of the Constitutional Court of February 18, 2020 clearly states that the Supreme Court of Ukraine cannot be liquidated. So all this time it existed under a new name. And there are still 9 judges left in it.
The previous government expected to squeeze them out with the help of the High Qualifications Commission of Judges. But did not have time to implement this plan. Now this problem has been inherited by the new government.
The intention to solve it “on the spur of the moment” came across the remarks of the experts of the Venice Commission to the bill №3711. Therefore, a working group was formed in the parliament, the task of which is to prepare a separate project.
It also plans to regulate issues related to 48 judges of higher specialized courts, who also remained on the sidelines of justice.
In addition to the legislators, the working group included judges of the Supreme Court, the Supreme Court, higher special courts, the GRP and other lawyers. And now the only question is what concessions the government will agree to in order to finally merge the two courts into one.
