The United Nations Secretariat has agreed to Ankara’s request to officially use Turkey’s other official name, Türkiye.

UN spokesman Stefan Dujarric said the secretariat had received a letter from Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu addressed to Secretary-General Antonio Guterres asking him to use Türkiye instead of Turkey in the international arena.
He added that the change of the country’s name came into force upon receipt of the letter.
“The new Türkiye brand now operates in foreign languages,” the statement said.
