Ukraine Gate – Kyiv – June 2, 2022- The European Commission has updated the list of airlines banned from flying in EU airspace for security reasons, now it includes 22 Russian carriers.
this was reported on the website of the European Commission .
“Following the decision in April to include 21 Russian airlines using foreign-owned aircraft without proper certificates of authorization, today another airline is included in the EU Aviation Security List. The European Commission monitors all Russian airlines that have foreign-owned aircraft without valid certificates of authorization in their fleet, which were illegally added by Russia to its own register… I emphasize that this decision is not part of sanctions against Russia, it is made solely on technical and security considerations “, – said the European Commissioner for Transport Adina Velyan.
Among the added companies is the Russian company I Fly. As a result, the EU Aviation Safety List now includes 22 Russian carriers, including Aeroflot, as these airlines allow aircraft to operate without proper certification and authorization in violation of international aviation safety standards.
In total, the EU Aviation Safety List includes 118 certified international airlines that are banned from flying in European aviation.
EU sanctions on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine have reportedly banned the operation and supply of Western aircraft in Russia. the Kremlin leadership “nationalized” aircraft leased from Russian airlines, that is, Russia actually stole them from foreign owners. While the legitimacy of such a decision by Moscow is being challenged in international arbitration, the EU Aviation Safety Committee has decided to ban flights for Russian companies in the European sky without proper safety certificates.
