Heavy storms and hail in France killed one woman and injured 14, devastated vineyards and delayed flights.

According to local authorities, lightning struck the Eiffel Tower without damaging it and set fire to the roofs east of Paris. Residents of southwestern France posted photos of a hailstone the size of a tennis ball, and drivers in the Paris region shared photos of flooded highways and the daytime sky blackened by storm clouds.
According to the utility company Enedis, thousands of homes were left without electricity on Sunday. Flights from Paris Orly Airport were temporarily suspended, and there were delays at Charles de Gaulle Airport.
Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin wrote on Twitter that a woman carried away by the flood was found dead under a car in the historic Norman city of Rouen. The circumstances of the death are still unclear.
In the Loire Valley, thousands of young people who took part in a huge gathering of scouts were forced to take refuge in Chambord Castle when hail, thunder and lightning struck the area.
