The biggest failure of Vladimir Putin during the war in Ukraine is the failure in the south. This opinion was voiced to UNN by analyst Viktor Bobirenko. He explained that the aggressor tried to break through from Kherson to Mykolayiv to reach Odessa, but the Armed Forces repulsed him.
Quote
“Putin’s biggest failure is the failure in the south, namely the impossibility of a breakthrough from Kherson via Mykolayiv to Odessa, and they failed to land in March and solve one of their main strategic tasks.
The first task was to capture Kyiv and change the leadership – it did not work, the second – to cut off Ukraine from the sea – did not work. And that’s why the blockade is going on right now, that’s why the whole world is being blackmailed: if you don’t surrender to us, we will starve tens of millions of people. In other words, in this way Russia is openly blackmailing the world and they need OPP, ”Bobyrenko said.
However, the Odessa port plant itself is safe, because the enemy as a whole needs it, the analyst explained.
“I think they are also planning a landing operation at the same time. That is, the enemy has not come to terms with the fact that Ukraine is not cut off from the sea – this is their strategic goal.
And OPP is unlikely to fire. They need him whole. If they do not succeed, then they will try to destroy it. Like, I will not bother myself and I will not give to anyone. If we see that people are shooting at him, it will be a direct signal to us that Russia has refused to seize Odessa. They now need a whole OPP to export grain themselves, including Ukrainian grain that is already there. And other strategically important goods that are there, “he said.
Bobyrenko stated that Russians are interested in OPP not only because of grain, but also because of ammonia, the export of which for Russia is possible only through OPP.
This pipe (Togliatti-Odesa ammonia pipeline, through which ammonia is transported from Russia to Ukraine for sale, ed.) Is the only opportunity for them to export ammonia, of course they are interested in it. But I hope that will not happen. Well, at least because in order to take away our pipe, they need to occupy the entire territory through which the ammonia pipeline passes. Meanwhile, part of the pipe passes through the territory of Ukraine, “Bobyrenko summed up.
Let’s add
Ammonia pipeline – a gas pipeline designed to transport ammonia. There are several dozen such product pipelines in the world, the fifth of which is the only ammonia pipeline in Ukraine, Togliatti – Odesa.
Ammonia is transferred from the Russian chemical company Togliattiazot (ToAZ), owned by Russian businessman Dmitry Mazepin, to the Odessa Port Plant (OPP) in Yuzhne, where it is loaded into tankers and transported to the plants of the American oil company Occidental Petroleum. The operator of the Russian part is Transamiak, the Ukrainian part is Ukrhimtransamiak.
Russia receives up to $ 12 billion a year from ammonia supplies through Ukraine to the West . For comparison: the budget of Cyprus in 2021 amounted to 13 billion dollars. So the entire budget of the whole of Cyprus is almost equal to the revenue of the aggressor country. And all thanks to the Ukrainian pipe.
Dmytro Mazepin has repeatedly stated that the transit of ammonia through Ukraine is constantly accompanied by a large number of risks due to Russia’s conflicts with Ukraine.
At the same time, he could not refuse it, because the Russian company has no other ways to transport ammonia.
A few days before the war in Ukraine, Mazepin talked with Russian President Putin and promised to “surrender” Odessa (where the port plant is located, through which Russian ammonia is exported to American oil companies), in exchange for control of this enterprise.
