The Ministry of Education and Science has announced new changes to the curriculum in several subjects. According to Deputy Minister of Education and Science Andriy Vitrenko on the national telethon, the changes will affect such subjects as defense of the Fatherland, foreign literature, history of Ukraine and world history .

“According to the order of the Ministry of Education and Science, groups of highly professional specialists are currently working to create changes to the curriculum. By June 15, these groups must submit results to the Ministry of Education and Science, and we will make separate changes,” Vitrenko said.

He added that first of all these changes will affect the subject of “defense of the Fatherland”. They will concern the strengthening of the practical orientation of this subject.
“Children need to know, be able to, national and patriotic education will be strengthened and there will be a separate block related to mine action. That children are aware of the fact that they cannot be touched, which is dangerous for them, ”Vitrenko explained.
In addition, Leo Tolstoy’s novel War and Peace will be excluded from foreign literature.
“This will not be studied in Ukraine, that is, everything that orc troops sing, it will disappear from the program of foreign literature. Ukrainian history and world history – we are proud to be based on national Ukrainian archival documents. Changes will be made in the methodology of teaching history and world history, working groups are carefully working on all these changes, and the relationship between the Ukrainian nation and the “Russian measure” will be written on the basis of historical truth, “Vitrenko said.
As for whether any Russian writers will remain in the program, Vitrenko said that discussions on the issue are under way, but the program of foreign literature will be updated.
He also said that the ministry is auditing places that could be used as bomb shelters for students in case of danger. Appropriate shelter requirements and specialized evacuation routes will also be developed.
