Ukraine, energy security, defense and cybersecurity, economic and democratic stability. These five topics are the main on the political agenda of the future Czech presidency of the EU Council, as stated in the draft internal document, which refers to EURACTIV .

The Czech Republic will chair the EU Council from 1 July until the end of the year. During this six-month period, Prague will conduct diplomatic work, which plays a crucial role in shaping the EU’s agenda.
“The common goal of the Czech presidency is to maximize the EU’s security and prosperity in the context of European values of freedom, social justice, democracy, the rule of law and environmental responsibility,” the draft document, due to be published on 15 June, reads.

“It is not surprising that the Ukrainian crisis ranks first on the political agenda of the Czech Republic. This includes hitting Russia with all EU instruments, especially economic sanctions, and providing political and military support to Ukraine,” the newspaper said.
Prague is said to be determined to work with the European Commission to redistribute EU funding to Member States that have opened their doors to refugees, helping them to build the necessary structures to deal with the humanitarian crisis.
Moreover, “the Czech presidency will work in favor of reaching a consensus on granting Ukraine candidate status,” the draft said.
After the end of hostilities, the most important task will be the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine.
