Ukraine will not accept surrogate versions or alternatives to EU candidate status. The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba said this at a briefing on Wednesday.

According to him, Ukraine has earned the status of a candidate and meets the criteria for its nomination – this is the position not only of the government but also of civil society.
The Minister noted that, indeed, there are skeptics who are trying to bribe Ukraine with some alternatives.
But there is less and less time, the clock is running out, but it is necessary to work, and therefore I beg you not to slow down, even if you are told to the last that “no, it’s impossible” – believe that it is possible, and let’s fight and overcome this skepticism, “he said.
Candidate status is the latest psychological barrier in EU skeptics that Ukraine must overcome, the diplomat added.
Greece and Cyprus reportedly support Ukraine ‘s EU membership, but oppose speeding up the process, as suggested by several Eastern European countries. In this context, they mention the European aspirations of the Western Balkans.
In response, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called it unfair to link Ukraine’s EU candidate status to progress in the integration of the Western Balkans.
