Ukraine Gate – Kyiv – June 9, 2022- Poland’s President Andrzej Duda told Germany’s Bild newspaper in an interview that his country has sent weapons worth nearly $2 billion to Ukraine, including more than 240 tanks and about 100 armored personnel carriers.
He added that Warsaw also supplied Kyiv with small arms, ammunition and military equipment.
He also called on those who can supply Ukraine with heavy weapons, including long-range systems and rocket artillery, to do so. The transfer of such equipment to Kyiv would be in response to Russian artillery and missile attacks on Ukrainian cities.
Duda pointed out that the Ukrainian response in the form of heavy artillery fire and rocket artillery is in fact the only means against the Russian attack now.
He added that Poland also expects to receive compensation from Western allies, including Germany, in the form of weapons to fill gaps in the Polish army following the transfer of military equipment to Ukraine.
The President of the Republic of Poland indicated that Warsaw would like to obtain US weapons of the last generation within the framework of the lend-lease program adopted by the United States to help Ukraine.
He noted that Berlin had also adopted a program that allowed to provide compensation to some countries for the loss of weapons transferred to Ukraine, and the Polish leader indicated that Poland wanted to receive Leopard 2A4 main battle tanks from Germany, Duda noted, Berlin had not done anything in this direction yet.
