The process of de-Russification must take place in a lawful and transparent manner in dialogue with local authorities and society. To this end, an expert council will be set up at the Ministry of Culture and the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory to deal with these issues. This was announced at a briefing by Minister of Culture and Information Policy Alexander Tkachenko .

According to the law, the ministry cannot rename streets, decide to demolish monuments or recommend theaters to abandon Russian classics. In the case of streets, this is the responsibility of local authorities. There is a procedure for monuments. But of local significance can be renamed or simply moved to another location by a government decision at the request of the ICIP, but at the initiative of local authorities, “- said Tkachenko.
He noted that the process did not become chaotic, a number of meetings were held on toponymy, monuments and works. As a result, it became clear that in order to carry out the process of de-Russification within the legal framework, it is necessary to create a council at the ICIP and UINP, which will take care of these issues. In dialogue with the public, local authorities should come to a joint decision and coordinate with the expert council.
Undoubtedly, this process must continue. I am personally in many cases for it, but if we want to be a normal European state, then even in war we must show a correct attitude to this process. Work will begin soon. There is already an expert council. It will be possible to get acquainted with its participants tomorrow. There are already a number of invited experts who will be members of the council, today a document will be signed, “said the Minister of Culture.
