Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, about 500 religious communities have joined the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. This was stated in an interview with NV by the head of the PCU, Metropolitan Epiphanius .
Quote
“Since December 2018, more than 1,000 parishes have joined us. More than 600 communities have joined the large-scale invasion, and about 500 have joined now, and the transition is ongoing. I am sure that the communities will continue to join together with the priests, because yesterday, for example, I received one community with a priest, ”he said.
Details
According to Epiphanius, there is now a need for clergy because the church did not expect so many free communities at once.
“It simply came to our notice then. But it would be good for priests to support their communities and move with them. Because I am sometimes surprised as a pastor who takes care of his community for 20-30 years, when the community unanimously decides to move to the PCU and asks the priest to support their action, he does not support this action and says that it is better to work in secular work than support their decision. This is surprising because a pastor cannot behave in this way, ”he added.
Addition
In Brovary suspended the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) in the community for the period of martial law.
