The Orthodox Church of Ukraine (PCU) does not currently have a dialogue with the Pope. As Metropolitan Epiphanius explained in an interview with NV, this is due to the fact that the papal throne traditionally looks in the direction of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC), and Moscow gives them ultimatums .
Quote
“So far we have no official dialogue, because there have been good relations between Rome and Moscow for decades. We are not against this, but we also want, as the Ukrainian Church, to have relations with the Roman Catholic Church, ”Epiphanius said.
He noted that Moscow puts a certain ultimatum – if there is communication with the PCU, then there will be no communication between Rome and the ROC.
At the same time, the PCU has good relations not at the highest level – with the Pope’s representatives, with the episcopate of the Roman Catholic Church in Poland and always good relations with Ukrainian Catholics. The Metropolitan noted that the church is gradually developing these relations, but there are many who do not want this communication.
Addition
Earlier, Pope Francis wanted to arrange a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow to try to stop the war in Ukraine. However, he did not plan a visit to Kyiv .
