The oligarchs must be defeated, to partially defeat corruption. The president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi believes in that.
“Unequivocally (oligarchs must be defeated to defeat corruption – ed.) … I believe that oligarchs in this civilized world have two options: oligarchs become big business, and then they have no influence on politics or the media. information. Then, if they pay taxes and provide jobs, the state has an excellent working relationship with them. If financial groups have political influence, are constantly lobbying, have media in which they are not just minorities, but control information policy, they turn from big businessmen into oligarchs,” Zelensky said.
According to the Head of State, it is in such cases that the state must fight the oligarchy.
“What is in us. I told you that they are represented in the Verkhovna Rada, and, unfortunately, I must state that the owners of all television groups today are such big businessmen as we call them, oligarchs. If the state manages to prevent these things, then we will defeat the oligarchs,” the resident added.
According to Zelensky, victory over the oligarchs will not eliminate the entire corruption component.
“Will we completely defeat corruption after defeating the oligarchs? No. Because it is not only by such means that corruption is defeated. I believe that digitalization is needed first of all, so this is a separate area that we are working on. Less contact of a person with an official – more digital directions,” Volodymyr Zelensky summed up.
He added that, in his opinion, relations with the United States should advance not only in fundamental matters, such as industry and investment, but also “in terms of our relations in tourism, in terms of visa-free travel with the United States.”
