Ukraine is an agrarian state, we grow and sell dozens of crops to most countries of the world.
However, garlic is still a crop that we stubbornly ignore and import from China, Spain, Egypt…
According to Anna Morozova, the founder of the UkrUp garlic cooperative, Ukraine could become the third largest producer of garlic in the world.
Today, garlic in Ukraine is grown mostly in households. Ofiyino estimates that 23,900 hectares are under garlic in the country, of which only 900 hectares are farms or agricultural holdings, while 23,000 are private households.
According to Anna Morozova, cooperatives can unite these players. Thus, small players will be able to sell their products to supermarkets and form export parties by creating cooperatives. Thanks to cooperatives, Ukraine will be able to break into the top three leaders of China and Spain.
