US President Joe Biden has said temporary storage facilities will be built along the border with Ukraine to help export more grain and overcome the growing global food crisis.

“I am working closely with our European partners to bring to market 20 million tons of grain blocked in Ukraine to help lower food prices,” Biden told a union convention in Philadelphia.
Details
After Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and the blockade of Black Sea ports, grain shipments have stopped and more than 20 million tons are stuck in storage. The Ukrainian side, as indicated, reports that the country does not have enough storage for the new harvest.
Biden noted that Washington is developing a plan to export grain by rail, but noted that the Ukrainian track is different from the European, so the grain has to be reloaded on other trains at the border. Therefore, it was decided to build temporary storage facilities along the border of Ukraine, in particular in Poland.
The US President added that grain from Ukrainian railway cars could be moved to new storage facilities and then to European freight cars, but this plan will take time.
