The Verkhovna Rada registered a bill №7459 banning the import of books from the aggressor state – Russia, its temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and Belarus, as well as tightening restrictions on anti-Ukrainian publishing products .

Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy, People’s Deputy from the “Servant of the People” Eugene Kravchuk, quoted by the press service of the political forces, said that the bill proposes:
- to prohibit the import and distribution in Ukraine of publishing products from Russia, Belarus, the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
- cancel previously issued permits for the import of such products.
- to withdraw from sale book products imported earlier.
- books in the language of the aggressor state imported from other countries shall be subject to import authorization.
- to prohibit the publication, import, and distribution in Ukraine of book editions containing works by Russian citizens and anti-Ukrainian literature.

“In Ukraine, from January 1, 2023, books will be published and distributed in the state Ukrainian language, the languages of the indigenous peoples of Ukraine and the official languages of the EU. Books in other languages can be published and distributed if they are published in the original language,” said Yevhenia Kravchuk.
According to her, on the territory of Ukraine it will be possible to freely publish (import, distribute) works in any (including Russian) language of the citizens of Ukraine or any works of foreigners in the original language. However, it will not be possible to publish, import, distribute, for example, popular foreign literature translated into Russian.

The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy plans to remove Russian propaganda literature from Ukrainian libraries. Instead, the department wants to replace it with quality Ukrainian-language books.
