The “quarantine” year is coming to an end, and it’s time to take stock. We bring to your attention the first material from the series.
From January to November of this year, 9.9 thousand new commercial vehicles were registered in Ukraine, which is 8% less than in the same period last year. At the same time, according to AUTOconsulting.ua, following the results of 11 months, the truck market shows a decline of -26%. Note that in these sources there is a difference in counting technologies and sampling, but the decline is obvious.
Now, the end of the “quarantine” year is approaching, the cold statistics of sales and imports by categories of commercial vehicles have not yet been calculated, and journalists from the National Construction Encyclopedia ProfiDom.com.ua interviewed key market operators – how they assess this year – each in their segment, and what trends were present on the Ukrainian market.
Let’s start the series of materials with commercial vehicles from Scania and Dongfeng in Ukraine.
Scania in Ukraine
Scania Ukraine, definitely, 2020 passed under the flag of construction equipment. The share of sales of construction equipment from Scania and other brands has doubled.
At the same time, sales in the segment of long-haul transportation (international and regional) fell three times, the total market in the segment over 16 tons fell 2-2.5 times compared to 2019.
The most popular this year were 4-axle dump trucks with different body configurations for different jobs: for transportation of crushed stone, rock, slag, sand and construction waste.
According to Scania’s observations, the decrease in the market in Ukraine is proportional to the decrease in the market in Europe – the dynamics were very similar.
Dongfeng in Ukraine
The commercial director of Golex LLC (official dealer of DONGFENG in Ukraine) Georgy Goginadze, in his commentary to ProfiDom.com.ua reporters, noted that in 2020 the Ukrainian market of trucks decreased by 26%. However, the number of requests for commercial vehicles powered by electric traction is steadily increasing.
In the current year, the trend of increasing the number of sales of equipment on financial leasing terms continued. Rates have been declining throughout the year, which was one of the reasons for such an increase.
This year, Golex LLC offered the market a wide range of Dongfeng trucks with Ukrainian-made bodies. This approach made it possible to flexibly respond to customer requests, providing chassis from a warehouse for the installation of bodies and equipment with a specific technical specification of the client, and execution using corporate colors.
In 2020, the most popular were Dongfeng three- and four-axle dump trucks, as well as grain carriers with bodies produced by the Aleko Plant.
As Georgy Goginadze noted, in 2020, sales fell in all European markets, and Ukraine, with a 26% decline, occupies the middle position in this list. Summing up (and taking into account the survey of domestic bodybuilders, which we will publish in the near future), we note that 2020 for commercial vehicles was held under the motto “dump trucks for construction” – they showed growth. Special vehicles based on chassis, bodies for which were manufactured by domestic enterprises, also demonstrated growth. And in Ukraine they are already interested in electric trucks!
