This means, in particular, that from July 16, 2022:
- any product on which a computer program is installed – from a car to a washing machine or electric coffee maker, must be “localized” for sale in Ukraine. The product must have a Ukrainian-language interface, regardless of whether this interface uses an electronic screen or looks like a control panel with regular buttons;
- all Internet resources (websites, social media pages, YouTube, Viber, telegram channels, mobile applications, etc.) used as Internet representations of business entities registered in Ukraine, including information Internet resources, must have a basic version in Ukrainian, which should be downloaded for users in Ukraine by default.
“From January 16, 2021, business entities that provide services to Ukrainian consumers on the Internet (online stores, online catalogs, etc.) are obliged to post information about goods and services in the state language on the relevant Internet resources. However, from now on they are obliged to have a full-fledged version in Ukrainian, which should be the main one (containing the maximum amount of information) and downloaded by default, ”said language ombudsman Taras Kremin.
According to him, the lack of a Ukrainian-language version of the information Internet resource after July 16, 2022 may mean a deliberate violation by its owner of the law on the state language, or the lack of state registration of the media and / or owner as a business entity.
Fines for officials
Also, from July 16, 2022, the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language will be able to impose fines on officials of public authorities and local governments, managers and employees of enterprises, institutions and organizations of all forms of ownership, and other individuals who violate the law.
The amount of the fine is from UAH 3,400 to UAH 7,500 if the violation is committed for the first time. A fine of UAH 7,500 to UAH 11,900 will be imposed for repeated violations.
