Ukrzaliznytsia confirmed that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi had taken the Ukrainian “diplomatic train” after reports of their planned visit to Kyiv.
The day before, the FT wrote that the leaders of France, Germany and Italy were planning a joint trip to Ukraine on Thursday to show support for the country, which is resisting the Russian invasion, and to discuss its application for EU membership.
The visit will take place ahead of the European Commission’s assessment of Ukraine’s EU candidate status, a decision the bloc’s leaders will discuss at a summit in Brussels next week.
