Although official talks have been suspended, Arahamiya said he and his team were talking on the phone with their Russian counterparts “once or twice a week” to check on the situation, although “both sides clearly understand that there is no room for negotiations.”
He said that after the Russian war crimes in cities such as Bucha and Mariupol, “there was a backlash inside the country to the idea of negotiating with Russia” (according to Axios), but also said that the war would have to end by “compromise”.
Arahamiya also said that Russia is largely protected from sanctions due to high oil prices, but will fully feel their effects in three or four years.
“The question is whether we (Ukraine – ed.) Will still be here in three or four years to enjoy the show,” he added.
