The price for such original wheat will be high, because experimental production is not cheap!
The farm in Krasyliv district of Khmelnytsky region plans to grow the first harvest of winter wheat, which will be blue and black.
It is noted that this decision was prompted by the desire of farmers to keep up with current trends in agriculture and food production. They also want to be competitive in the bakery market, because the originality of flour is combined with usefulness.
“We plan not only to sell the obtained grain and flour, but also to use it in our own bakery to bake special types of bread. In many technical characteristics, new wheat is not inferior to traditional varieties. But when it comes to yields, there are likely to be some questions. After all, we traditionally sow high-yielding varieties of red wheat, which yield, as a rule, at least 8 t / ha per hectare. But black grain – only 5-6 t / ha, “- said farmers.
The seeds were made at the Odessa Breeding and Genetic Institute, where they worked for 10 years to adapt foreign varieties of colored grains to growing in Ukraine.
However, it is noted that the price for such original products will be high, because experimental production is not cheap, and in the case of Krasyliv farm it is about organic farming, the publication adds.
In 2020, grain accounts for one-fifth of all Ukrainian exports.
Argentina became the first country to approve the cultivation of GMO wheat.
