Ukraine Gate – Kyiv – June 19, 2022- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Taluberdi said that his country has called on the countries of the world to develop a phased plan for the complete elimination of nuclear weapons by 2045, and that it is the only country in the Commonwealth of Independent States to have joined the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
This came a statement by the Kazakh Foreign Minister on the eve of the meeting of the member states of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, which will be held next week in Vienna on June 21-23.
According to the minister, Kazakhstan’s practical contribution to nuclear disarmament “gives the moral right to continue to invite peoples and governments to redouble their efforts to rid our planet of the danger of nuclear self-destruction based on mutual trust.”
“Kazakhstan has nominated its candidacy for the position of vice-chairman of the first meeting of the NPT in 2022 and president of the third meeting for the period 2024-2026,” the foreign minister said.
The Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons also entered into force in January 2021, and so far, the document has been signed by 86 countries and nearly 60 countries have ratified.
The nuclear powers – Russia, Britain, China, the United States and France – have rejected the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which they say runs counter to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and could further complicate further progress on disarmament.
The administration of the President of Kazakhstan emphasized that contrary to Russia’s wishes on April 1, Kazakhstan respects Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
Kazakhstan has said it will not help Russia circumvent Western sanctions, while Kazakhstan has publicly refused to support Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
On May 23, more than $20 million from the “daughters” of Russian banks were banned in Kazakhstan.
