Ukraine Gate – Kyiv – June 20, 2022- Ukraine has recently exported an average of 1.5 million tons of grain per month by road, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Coordinator of the Council of Exporters and Investors Olga Trofimtseva, said in an online briefing on Monday.
“In recent months, we have exported an average of 1.5 million tons of grain by road – by rail,” Trofimtseva said.
Noting that the European infrastructure and logistics were not ready for the amount of grain exported by Ukraine, the diplomat pointed to the efforts of Poland, Germany and other countries to build transit centers on the border, and to speed up the passage of trains carrying Ukrainian grain between countries to ports where it can be loaded onto ships.
“We recently heard President Biden say that the United States will also build temporary grain storage facilities in Poland near the Ukrainian border to offload Ukrainian grain storage facilities before the 2022 harvest,” said the Coordinator of the Exporters and Investors Council.
She also drew attention to the fact that European partners have simplified all customs and phytosanitary control procedures as much as possible so that Ukrainian grain reaches final consumers as quickly as possible.
Because of the blockade of Ukrainian seaports, 7 million tons of wheat, 14 million tons of corn kernels, 3 million tons of sunflower oil and 3 million tons of sunflower powder did not enter the world market, and this has already led to a record rise in world market prices. It will inevitably lead to a global food crisis and rising inflation.
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on May 31 that Ukraine is working on an international operation under the auspices of the United Nations with partner fleets to establish safe trade routes for Ukrainian food exports.
