Ukraine Gate – Kyiv – June 20, 2022- Russia is currently trying to “intercept” foreign students who studied in Ukraine before the war or planned to enter Ukrainian universities, but due to Russia’s exclusion from international educational processes, the diplomas of its universities will not be recognized internationally.
Deputy Minister of Education and Science Andriy Vitrenko said this on the air of the TV news marathon.
“I know that the Russians want to intercept them (foreign students who studied in Ukraine – ed.), But given that the Russians were expelled from almost all forms of international, European educational cooperation, including the Bologna system, Russian diplomas will only be needed. “In some Udmurt Autonomous Okrug. Foreigners understand this and return to the European country,” Vitrenko said.
He reminded that before the full-scale war in Ukraine, about 80,000 foreign students studied, mostly in medical specialties. After the Russian invasion, almost all of them left.
However, according to Vitrenko, students want to continue their studies in Ukraine. According to higher education institutions located in the western regions, many foreign students are returning.
“As far as I know, according to the Free Economic Zones, which are located in the so-called rear regions, many of them have already returned, because they want to continue their studies in Ukraine,” said the Deputy Minister.
He added that the Ministry of Education and Science has simplified the rules of admission for foreign students.
“Now they can take (entrance exams – ed.) And enter ZVO remotely, remotely study. The only thing is that we have a problem with medical specialties, because we understand that medicine can not be learned online. Therefore, at the initiative of our educational institutions, educational institutions The Ministry of Health is taking certain actions to return students to study in safe educational institutions located in Ukraine, where it is more or less safe, “said the Deputy Minister.
Vitrenko also said that since the beginning of the full-scale war, only 222 invitations to foreigners to study in Ukraine have been issued. Currently, the Ministry of Education and Science, with the help of international partners, is conducting a promotional campaign for training in Ukraine.
As reported, in April the Bologna Process Support Group decided to suspend the right of the Russian Federation and Belarus to be represented in the Bologna Process, as well as in working groups, all other structures and the work program of the European Higher Education Area.
