Ukraine Gate – Kyiv – June 22, 2022- The Communications Directorate of the Presidential Administration of Turkey stated that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed over the phone with the Prime Ministers of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson and Estonia Kaya Kallas efforts to resolve the issue of grain exports from Russian ports closed by Russia.
During the conversation with Johnson, they talked about regional issues, bilateral relations and Russia’s war against Ukraine, in particular about cooperation in the defense industry. “President Erdogan stated the need to find a solution for the safe export of grain from Ukraine,” the statement read.
Speaking with Kallas, Erdogan said they are working with the United Nations to export Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea in order to prevent a global food crisis.
British Foreign Secretary Liz Terrace will arrive in Turkey on Wednesday to discuss global food shortages caused by Russia’s blockade of Ukrainian ports and support international efforts to export grain from Ukraine.
“We are doing everything we can with our allies to ensure safe passage and to make sure that the defense of Odessa is fully secured, I will go to Turkey to negotiate what we can also do to export grain from Odessa,” Tress said.
