Ukraine Gate – Kyiv – June 23, 2022- During a telephone conversation between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and President Nicos Anastasiades, Zelensky expressed his gratitude for the readiness of the Republic of Cyprus to support granting Ukraine candidate status for accession to the European Union, where he discussed Cyprus’ participation in the future reconstruction of Ukraine.
The European Commission has recommended that the European Council confirm Ukraine’s possible accession to the European Union and grant it candidate status.
The European Council will also hold a discussion on granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership at a meeting on June 23-24.
