Ukraine Gate – Kyiv – June 23, 2022- Ukrainian Border Guard Service spokesman Andrei Demchenko provided an update on Ukrainians who have crossed the border since Russia began its invasion of the country, with 3.4 million citizens repatriated.
In total, more than 10 million people have crossed the state border in both directions since February 24, including 6.1 million passengers registered for departure, the vast majority (5.4 million) of whom are citizens of Ukraine, and at the same time, 3.4 million Ukrainian citizens have crossed into Ukraine.
He added that the average daily number of border crossings is currently between 85 thousand, 90 thousand and 20 thousand vehicles in both directions on the borders with the European Union and Moldova, and the largest flow is observed across the border with Poland.
Polish border guards also talk about queues of cars coming into Ukraine at certain checkpoints, while they don’t see any big queues coming out of Ukraine.
The state spokesman said, “With the continued closure of the seaports, of course, the logistical flows on the western borders increased, which led to the queuing of trucks, so we are working with neighboring countries to develop joint efforts to increase the capacity of the checkpoints.”
The Krakowice-Kortzowa checkpoint on the border with Poland was reopened after modernization, its capacity increased by 50% due to the greater number of truck lanes (10 vs. 4) and the creation of additional wings for customs and passport control.
