The US Senate Foreign Relations Committee has supported a resolution calling on the US State Department to recognize Russia as a sponsor of terrorism.

“So far, this is only a resolution supported by the committee. The final decision must be made by the presidential administration. This is a resolution calling on the administration, but it is not a de facto recognition of Russia as a sponsor of terrorism,” said Democratic Senator Chris Koons.

The Senate expects support for the resolution, as well as for the US Secretary of State to listen to Congress. If approved, Russia will be equated with Syria, Iran, Cuba and the DPRK.
“There is no doubt that Russia, led by Vladimir Putin, is a sponsor of terrorism. The act he carried out in order to attack Ukraine was a terrorist act. He is a war criminal and is responsible for every crime committed on his behalf. “For every destruction, for every murder. Everything that was done in Ukraine is his responsibility,” said Republican James Rich.

In mid-April, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky had a telephone conversation with US President Joe Biden, during which he asked to include Russia in the list of sponsors of terrorism.
The move could have a number of consequences, including imposing economic sanctions on dozens of other countries that continue to do business with Russia, freezing Moscow’s assets in the United States, including real estate, and banning the export of various dual-use goods.
