The British company Jaguar continues to develop its electric direction and the next step will be the appearance of the flagship electric crossover – J-Pace.
After the successful launch of the I-Pace model, the company plans to eventually switch the entire model range to electricity. The company has already allocated an investment of one billion pounds for the development and production of electric vehicles.
The first model based on it will have to be the new flagship of the company – the J-Pace SUV. The car will take the top step in the model range and will demonstrate the capabilities of the brand in terms of technology. A feature of the model for the company will be an intelligent all-wheel drive system that operates at the expense of an additional electric motor on the rear axle.
While Jaguar is not in a hurry to transfer all models exclusively to electricity. To date, the development strategy involves the introduction of an interim solution – hybrids. According to the latest research of the company, by 2025 no more than 20% of sales of electric cars for the total volume of the world market is expected.
In accordance with modern indexing, the car will receive the designation J-Pace, and it will be based on the company’s new platform, which will also receive the next generation of the flagship XJ sedan. The release of the novelty is planned to be organized at the Jaguar plant in Castle Bromwich, where the production of all electric models of the company will be concentrated.
According to preliminary data, the top version of the J-Pace will receive four-wheel drive and a 100 kWh battery, which will allow it to travel at least 300 miles (482 km) on a single charge. Buyers will also be offered less power-equipped versions of the model.
The new member of the Jaguar family will inherit individual styling cues from the I-Pace and F-Pace crossovers. In addition, it is expected that he will receive a closed front end of the body without the usual for cars with internal combustion engine grille and narrow LED headlights.
In addition to the large electric crossover, the company is considering creating a compact model that will be comparable in size or smaller to the current E-Pace.
“As I reflect on what is happening in the world, I would like to make cars smaller, more efficient and have all the Jaguar qualities of: nice to look at, fantastic interiors and great to drive,” Jaguar Chief Designer Julian Thompson commented.
