Russia’s high command has removed several generals from key command positions in the war against Ukraine since early June. According to the British Ministry of Defense on Twitter, Russian forces in the Donbass were led by General Sergei Surovikin .

It is reported that among the suspended generals – the commander of the Airborne Forces (Airborne Forces), Colonel-General Andrei Serdyukov, as well as the commander of the Southern Group of Forces, General Alexander Dvornikov, who previously served as chief operational officer.

“The PGV command is likely to pass to Colonel-General Sergei Surovikin, as the PGV continues to play a central role in Russia’s offensive in the Donbas,” the statement said.
It noted that Surovikin’s career had been marred by allegations of corruption and brutality for more than thirty years.
