US Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo visited Turkey this week to discuss Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the application of sanctions against Moscow, the Finance Ministry said in a statement on Saturday .

Adeyemo visited Turkey from Wednesday to Friday, the Finance Ministry said, meeting with representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Treasury and Finance in Ankara and talking to financial institutions in Istanbul.
The Ministry of Finance stated that Adeyemo discussed with financial institutions the implementation and observance of Western sanctions imposed on Russia after its invasion of Ukraine on February 24.

“All parties have expressed a desire to ensure that Turkey is not used as a haven for illegal financing and that the integrity of its banking sector continues to be protected,” the statement said.
Kyiv criticized Turkey for not supporting sanctions against Russia after the invasion, but also thanked it for diplomatic and military support to end the war, including receiving officials from both sides for peace talks.
