Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda said on his Facebook page that Lithuania would not lift restrictions on transit to Kaliningrad.
Details
Kaliningrad Transit has been operating since 2004, when Lithuania joined the European Union. The terms of transit were discussed in the EU-Russia agreement, where the EU is not unilaterally responsible for their implementation.
According to the Lithuanian President, Lithuania is actively participating in the decisions on sanctions against Russia. The fourth package contains certain groups of goods (steel, ferrous metals, luxury goods), the question arose as to what sanctions it applies in the case of Kaliningrad transit.

“I discussed this topic with Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission in Brussels. It is absolutely clear that Lithuania must and will implement EU sanctions. “Lithuania must maintain and will maintain control over the goods transported through its territory, and there can be no talk of any ‘corridors’ or thoughts of humiliating Russia in response to the Kremlin’s threats,” the statement said.
According to the President of Lithuania, the government of their country must urgently begin consultations with the European Commission so that the imposition of sanctions does not harm the interests of Lithuania or international agreements.
