Emmanuel Macron asked Prime Minister Elizabeth Bourne to propose new “government action” at the end of next week and reaffirmed his confidence in it in the long run.

The French president rejected her offer to resign on Tuesday after a sharp defeat in last week’s election, during which he lost an absolute majority in parliament.

According to the interview, Macron did not abandon the planned pension reform, which, he said, will entail longer work, “as do all neighboring countries.”

Under the pressure of finding compromises, Macron tried to appeal to political opponents, asking them to express ideas on the legislation of a fragmented parliament.
