Ukraine Gate – Kyiv – June 26, 2022- White House spokesman John Kirby stated that the United States is ready to provide Ukraine with Western or American systems, but for this it is necessary to withdraw part of the Ukrainian army from the combat zone in order to train them in the use of weapons of the new type.
In the fifth month of the massive Russian military invasion of independent Ukraine, the armed forces of Ukraine are still using weapons left from the Soviet era.
“In the early weeks of the war, there was a great and rightful focus on the reception systems Ukraine had trained its military on, knew how to use, and had already used – ex-Soviet equipment, and they still needed to use those systems,” Kirby said.
According to Kirby, the United States is ready to provide Ukraine with other Western or American systems, but for this it is necessary to withdraw part of the Ukrainian army from hostilities in order to train them in the use of new-class weapons.
“We want to make sure we strike the right balance here, which is that they get the systems they’re used to, the systems they need, without having to reduce their combat readiness in the field,” Kirby explained.
