Despite the fact that the Severodonetsk-Lysychansk “pocket” remains the main course of action of the Russian occupiers, the week of intense shelling indicates that Russia is trying to restore pace on the northern axis of Izyum, intelligence sources say. Ukrainian forces continue to hold the line in this sector, making efficient use of forested areas.
In addition, according to intelligence, in the coming weeks, the Russian army is likely to rely more and more on the echelons of the reserve forces. The British Ministry of Defense adds that Russia has almost begun to deploy them. These forces consist of several components:
– Combat Army Reserve of the country (BARS) – a recent innovation, consisting of reservists-volunteers who work part-time. They are deployed as whole units and are usually designed to protect the rear;
