The court ordered, in particular, the government of the Russian Federation to take measures to ensure that the death sentence handed down to Pinner and Aslin was not carried out.
The court also ordered that they be provided with appropriate conditions of detention and that they be provided with all necessary medical care and medication.
In addition, the jury instructed the Government of Ukraine to ensure that the applicants’ Convention rights were respected as far as possible.
British Foreign Secretary Liz Trass has said that the sentencing of two British nationals who fought for Ukraine in the temporarily occupied territories is not legitimate.
It was also reported that the Ukrainian authorities would prioritize the inclusion of British citizens Aiden Aslin and Sean Pinner, who received a “death sentence” from the DNR, in the list for the exchange of prisoners of war.
