Ukraine Gate – Kyiv – June 30, 2022- French President Emmanuel Macron announced the reinforcement of French forces on the eastern flank of NATO, Macron said at a press conference in Madrid, where he participated in the NATO summit.
“We decided to strengthen the army on the eastern side of NATO,” he said, noting that the audience on the map that appeared during the press conference.
Macron said the strengthening of deterrence and defense forces on NATO’s eastern flank, including the French military presence, was aimed at ensuring the security of European allies and partners from the threat posed by Russia.
“Our allies and partners know they can count on France in the face of threats. We are here. Our defense efforts are recognized and respected.”
Macron also recalled how in 2019 he stressed that NATO must strategically rethink its mission, objectives and role, “This work has been done, and this will guide our actions in terms of unity and cohesion.”
According to the French president, there is no peace on the European continent. “In Madrid, when we met as allies, we noticed this,” he said.
At the same time, Macron refuted the arguments of those who wanted war and its aftermath to be “the will of the West”, “We have been taught simply that, this is not the West against the East, but the peace of Europe against the war that Russia wants.
The president also reiterated his thesis, expressed days after the G7 summit, that Russia “should not win” in Ukraine.
“Russia should not win because our security will be threatened then,” Macron said, “the Ukrainians know the price of war.”
