“In order not to fall under international sanctions, the candidate identified by the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption of Ukraine (NACP) must publicly condemn the Russian regime, resign from his position in a state body or company, or perform another action that is prescribed for the corresponding category. The goal of securing such dismissals and convictions of the regime is to weaken Russia’s ability to wage war,” the message reads.
Thus, on July 4, the NAZK excluded a person from the list of candidates for sanctions for the first time. A person who was previously identified by NAK as a candidate for sanctions applied to NAK with a request to be removed from the list. Because of the war, this person condemned the Putin regime and resigned from the position of a board member of one of the largest state-owned companies of the Russian Federation. The name of the individual has not been released to ensure confidentiality.
It is only known that the company in which he worked is among the TOP-10 largest in terms of revenue in the energy sector. It pays huge amounts of taxes to the Russian budget, which actually finances terrorism.
As noted, the delisting mechanism for sanctions candidates is entirely legal and defined by the Yermak-McFaul Sanctions Group in the Individual Sanctions Roadmap. There are currently 16,000 candidates on the list.
Addition
The European Union aims to agree on the seventh package of sanctions against the Russian Federation before the summer holidays, i.e. by the end of July.
