“There is no evidence that the people of Bandera killed hundreds of thousands of Jews. This is a narrative that is still promoted by the Russians, it finds support in Germany, Poland and Israel,” Melnyk said in an interview with German journalist Thilo Jung at the beginning of the month.
These statements caused criticism of Melnyk in Germany, Israel and Poland. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine distanced itself from the ambassador’s statements.
