The attackers raided a village commune in Kossi province, about 55 kilometers from the border with Mali, between late Sunday night and early Monday morning, the regional governor said.

“The preliminary number of people killed as a result of this terrorist attack is 22 dead, several wounded and material damage,” the report says.
Burkina Faso has been fighting Islamist militants operating in the northern regions since 2015.
Army officers, angered by escalating attacks, ousted Burkina Faso’s president in January and vowed to improve security, but violence remains high.
Gunmen killed at least 100 civilians in another rural area in northern Burkina Faso last month, the country’s deadliest attack in at least a year.
