The bank reported on July 6 that they had received 4,200 applications for opening accounts from refugees from Ukraine in the Baltic states.
“To simplify the application process for Ukrainians and offer them a more modern digital experience, they will now be able to open an account remotely through the Citadele mobile application,” the bank said.
As noted, citizens of Ukraine who are in Latvia or Estonia will be able to open an account for free.
Previously, for this, it was necessary to make an appointment at a bank branch, to have with you a travel document or identity card issued in Ukraine, or a temporary residence permit issued in Latvia. Now Ukrainians can apply for opening a bank account through the application 24 hours a day. This can be done anywhere using the phone and the Internet.
According to the publication, you can open a bank account in three stages: download the Citadele mobile application; take a selfie; take a photo of a Ukrainian travel document or identity card and upload personal data, including a Latvian or Estonian phone number and personal code. The registration process takes 5-7 minutes. If the uploaded information is correct, the bank will contact the client.

“Given that Ukrainians have become a part of our society and we see a large number of refugees from the war in the Baltic countries, we immediately started working on expanding the functions of our application. A bank account is a basic need nowadays, the ability to open it remotely will help make this process easier and more modern for anyone,” said Vladyslav Myronovs, director of strategy and business development of the bank.
