It is noted that the decree is based on actions that the US administration has already taken to protect reproductive rights by:
– protection of access to reproductive health services, including abortion and contraception;
– protection of patients’ privacy and their access to reliable information;
– ensuring the safety and protection of patients, service providers and clinics;
– coordination of implementation of federal efforts to protect reproductive rights and access to medical care.
Biden will also reportedly direct the Department of Health and Human Services to take additional measures to protect access to abortion drugs, emergency medical care and contraception.
The decree will also address concerns related to patient privacy and digital surveillance, including measures to protect consumers’ privacy when seeking information about reproductive health services.
The administration will also enlist volunteer lawyers to “encourage active legal representation of patients, providers and third parties who legitimately seek or offer reproductive health care services across the country.”
Such representation may include helping to protect the patient’s right to travel to another state for an abortion.
The US president later criticized the Supreme Court ruling. The American leader said that this move set the country back 150 years.
