Electronic prescriptions for antibiotics will begin to be issued in Ukraine from August. This is the first stage in the implementation of an electronic prescription for all prescription drugs in Ukraine and the first step in solving the problem of uncontrolled use of drugs. “Regulating the dispensing of antibiotics through the introduction of an electronic prescription is one of the solutions that will allow monitoring data on the prescription and volume of antibiotic use in Ukraine, as well as combating antibiotic resistance, as a result of which more and more infections are becoming resistant to medications,” the message reads.

The Ministry of Health notes that the innovation will start working within the framework of the transition period in medical institutions working with the electronic health care system (EHS). If the health care institution to which the patient applies is not connected to the EHIC, the doctor must issue a paper prescription.
How to get electronic prescriptions for the purchase of antibiotics:
- an electronic prescription can be obtained from any doctor, regardless of the presence of a declaration with a family doctor;
- the patient will be able to purchase the necessary prescription drugs at any pharmacy in his city. For this, it is enough to show the pharmacist an information certificate, which the doctor will issue as confirmation of the appointment.
Currently, the duration of the transition period is determined until the end of the year. During this period, medical and pharmacy institutions should prepare for a full-fledged transition to the prescription of prescription drugs exclusively by electronic prescription, namely: choose a medical information system and register in the ESOZ.
Further, it is planned to launch a full-fledged electronic prescription for antibiotics, the decision on which will be made taking into account the situation in the country.
