“This decision was very difficult for Canada, and I understand Ukraine’s concerns about it, but it should have been done that way,” Freeland said.

She also stated that the return of the turbine was critical for Germany.
“Canada has heard clearly from our German allies that Germany’s ability to continue supporting Ukraine may be at risk,” added Freeland.
She drew attention to the fact that the US also publicly supported this decision, noting that it was an important signal.
“Canada is determined to support the Ukrainian people. We have already allocated $3.4 billion in financial and military aid. I am proud that Canada has been a leader in many aspects of supporting Ukraine and opposing Putin,” she said.
Later, the German government received a positive response from Canada to a request to unblock the supply of a turbine needed to service the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline.
Ukraine opposes Canada’s transfer of a turbine to Russia’s state-owned Gazprom to supply natural gas to Germany, as this move runs counter to sanctions against Russia.
